One of the most common questions we get from potential customers is related to Christmas: “What about Santa? If I install solar panels on my roof, where will Santa land his sleigh?”
Until this year, we didn’t have an answer, but that all has changed. We are introducing a patent-pending system that is designed to keep Santa safe, protect your roof, and also make sure reindeer or a sleigh don’t strike your solar panels. This engineering feat was completed all in one year, with a team of magical elves leading the consulting process.
First, the facts that we had to overcome…
Santa Claus is a heavy man. Traveling all around the world subsisting on a diet of milk and cookies surely isn’t doing any favors for his pancreas. Moreover, we needed a system that could handle the weight of a very large man, all the toys in the world, along with eight reindeer. A fully grown male reindeer can weigh upwards of 400 pounds. With eight reindeer, that’s 3,200 pounds! That’s like parking a car on your roof. Solar panels are not meant to withstand the weight of eight reindeer, plus like a grown man, a sleigh, and all the toys in the entire world.
Luckily, we were able to consult with the elves, and we learned that while the bag is full, the toys are made virtually weightless using elf magic, so the only consideration is really the sleigh, Santa, and his reindeer.
With that said, our system has been tested for up to 12 reindeer, Santa, a friend, and a sleigh with a tow rating consistent with a Ford F-150.
In order to deliver all the toys, Santa has to make speed doing it. Using the physics model of “Force = Mass x Acceleration” we knew that landing Santa would be a tough job, considering he’s traveling at nearly light speed.
When Santa is exiting, we needed something that wouldn’t trip him up. That’s why we ended up with a steel ladder frame that makes step-offs easy. Then, we hired elves to add their special magic, making it safe for thousands of years of Christmas landings. We can say with certainty that your Santa Solar Safety System will outlast your roof.
So what does it look like?
We recently installed our first prototype here in Colorado. It’s a fairly simple design, but it does the job. Santa can see the solar panels on one side, and the Santa Solar Safety System on the other. This makes it easy to get on and off your roof, so your kids can stop worrying about Santa. Here’s the best part: You don’t need to install it year round. We can come out on the night before Christmas and make sure it’s ready for Santa’s arrival, and then we can remove it after Christmas, so your roof maintains clear lines.
So, if your kids have been asking hard questions about Santa, don’t worry. We’ve got answers.
